Continuing our effort to shine a spotlight on some quality publications we wouldn't want you to have missed this November (or was it just us that found SBL so preoccupying?!), here is the excellent book by Sr Gill Goulding which we published this November, and which was presented to the Pope himself, no less!
A Church of Passion and Hope:
The Formation of An Ecclesial Disposition from Ignatius Loyola to Pope Francis and the New Evangelization
Pope Francis is the first Jesuit Pope, but his appointment marks a culmination of generations of contribution to the life and theological development of the Church from the Jesuit community. Jesuits were called by Ignatius Loyola to a certain ecclesial disposition, which Gill Goulding discusses here in relation to key texts from St Ignatius's life and work. In so doing, we are brought into encounter with such key historical figures as St Pierre Favre and Mary Ward, Henri de Lubac and Avery Dulles. Goulding raises the key question of the relationship between Christ and the Church as body of Christ, and shows the importance of maintaining a Trinitarian understanding.
'a book full of wonderful insights' - Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa, Canada
'Goulding shows how this ecclesial disposition can offer "passion and hope" to the New Evangelization. The book enriches both Ignatian studies and ecclesiology.' - Brian O'Leary, S.J. Milltown Institute, Ireland
'One cannot read this book without feeling the call to communion in the Church.' - Fr Timothy Gallagher, O.M.V Saint Clement Eucharistic Shrine, USA
