This week two exciting new advance copies landed on my desk.
The first book, Israel and Empire, publishing 20 Nov 2014 in the UK, is by Leo G. Perdue and Warren Carter and is edited by Coleman A. Baker. An examination of Ancient Israel and the Hebrew Bible through the lens of Postcolonial interpretation and Empire Studies, it is aimed at upper-level undergraduates and postgraduates studying biblical interpretation, introduction to the Hebrew Bible, postcolonial studies and approaches, and the history of Israel. You can find out more information here.
The second book is a new edition of the Marxist Criticism of the Hebrew Bible, publishing 18 Dec 2014 in the UK, by Roland Boer. This is a textbook that shows how Marxist literary theory is relevant to biblical criticism, both in terms of particular approaches to the Bible and in interpreting selected texts.
