This is not a new quest. It is one more criterion, which could be called the criterion of effect (i.e., how Jesus was understood). Despite the attacks on double dissimilarity (as they coined it) , this has been acknowledged by all who embrace it. Historical research is art and method, and John Meier practices it well. He makes Jesus incarnate in the Jewishness of his time. He maintains the balance. Let's hope these new folks will learn the same balance.
