September sees the publication of two new books in our Philosophy and Theology series: Deleuze and Theology by Christopher Ben Simpson, and Ricoeur and Theology by Dan R. Stiver. We continue to receive warm praise for a series which aims to help students and scholars navigate philosophical thought in its relevance for theological enquiry. In response to Deleuze and Theology, John Milbank of the University of Nottingham writes:
‘Simpson has provided us with one of the best critical accounts of Deleuze so far- showing just why he is central to the current revival of metaphysics and how theology can deploy him, criticise him and transcend him in order to take us beyond the still prevailing sway of theoretical nihilism.’
Paul S. Fiddes, Professor of Systematic Theology at Oxford University, writes in praise of Ricoeur and Theology:
'In this exceptional book Dan Stiver reveals how the two disciplines of philosophy and theology intertwine in Ricoeur's thought, each giving colour to the other. Stiver sets Ricoeur in the context on contemporary philosophy and theology, traversing a complex landscape with consummate ease. Stiver has achieved the almost impossible - writing a book on Paul Ricoeur that will introduce him to those who hardly know him, as well as offering a series of insights that will delight and intrigue scholars who know Ricoeur well.’
