A quick investigation of the prophets and gospels (canonical and otherwise) provides a variety of descriptions of what Heaven looks like. But whether Heaven looks anything like the Library of Alexandria or perhaps some Borgesian Library of Babel, it still does not compare with a room full of book-filled boxes just waiting to be opened, organized, and cataloged. If you work in a book warehouse or a library receiving department, this may actually be more of a sisyphusian hell than a heaven. But no matter! There's just something about opening a box of new books - and I think Camus would agree.
A while ago, I discovered an old post on the Logos Bible Software blog describing the arrival of about 450 Continuum/T&T Clark titles at their company meeting. These books (only one quarter of the 2,000+ on their way) were there to be scanned and included in digital libraries. And everyone seems to have showed up to unpack them!
If you want to a glimpse of Heaven, why not watch this video of everyone opening boxes and boxes (and boxes) of biblical and theological scholarship. I love how you cah hear one woman describe the Library of Biblical Studies as "the lion books". Look for the big stack of LHBOTS towards the end!
Thanks, Logos, for posting that great video!
