Ben Myers announces a new book of essays by Evangelical scholars on their relationship with and critique of Karl Barth: Engaging with Barth. It will be published by Apollos in January 2008 (a publisher I have never heard of before. Why haven't they offered it to us? Would have made a nice T&T Clark title too!). The publisher's website shows a portait of Barth painted by Oliver Crisp. This reminded me of a nice portrait I came across the other day, which was done for a Continuum/T&T Clark publication, but never used. How about this one?
While I like the sunglasses, the smoke halo is too overt, and the cigar is a horrible mistake.

Fantastic! If only he were carrying a Tommy Gun, it would be perfect.

Hi WTM,
why do you think the cigar is a terrible mistake? I know Barth was a pipe smoker, but when Dietrich Bonhoeffer was imprisoned in 1943 he sent him a Brasil cigar as a sign of his solidarity to the prison. So I like Barth with a cigar...
